Team Prime emerged as the champions of the TUT Volleyball Tournament, held on Tuesday, 21 October, at the TUT Main Campus volleyball courts. The event, sponsored by Herbalife, aQuelle, Tsalanang, and Redbull, provided students with food, drinks, gifts, and nutritional information.
The tournament kicked off with Team Golden Squad facing Team Prime. Golden Squad started strong, but Prime ultimately dominated both rounds, winning the first 14:10 and the second 15:4, securing their place in the final.
During the break, spectators were invited to participate in games and win prizes, adding an exciting element to the event.
Next, Team Dominators clashed with Court Avengers for the second spot in the final. The first half was closely contested, with only a three-point difference, but Dominators pulled ahead in the second half, winning 15:10 to earn their place in the final match against Prime.
The championship match between Prime and Dominators was intense. Prime took control in the first half, leading 25:16, and maintained their momentum in the second half, winning 20:13.
“We didn’t have much time to practice together, but we supported one another throughout the matches,” said Team Prime captain Kenny Mosima. “There is no chemistry if we don’t gym together, but our teamwork carried us through.”
Raphitwa Edgar of Dominators was named Player of the Tournament. “I’m grateful to my team for their support – it was because of them that I was able to perform at my best,” Edgar said. “We gave it our all, and I’m proud of how we played.”
The tournament was a practical assignment for second-year Sports Management students, who had to secure sponsors to make the event a success. “This event was a great opportunity for us to apply our knowledge and skills in a real-world setting,” said Njabulo Mvemve, one of the organizers and leader of the Apex Achievers group. “We’re proud of what we achieved, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s tournament.”
